The Duchy of Karamandia, to the south, Westhelgen in the middle, & then Northenfalg, to the far north, make up the entirety of Asendia.    Karamandia borders with the Kingdom of Salatia, and is fairly progressive compared to its northern neighbors.   Most of the population are tall, robust, Caucasian humans, well suited to the northern frontier life, and heavy snows.    Northenfalg, is the northernmost civilization before the arctic circle.  The majority of the Asen- dian population lies along the coastal areas, and extending maybe a hundred or so miles inland.    In the western borderlands of Northenfalg, is a population of what many in the south would refer to as barbarians.    The Falgenheid, as they are known, are a proud and intelligent sub race of humans.  They live in a tightly knit clan based society, and are very family oriented and loyal. They are also considered part of Asendia, and are under the governance and protection of the Duke of Northenfalg.
Unarguably, Calamata is the most advanced civilization on all of Nithrendia.  Centrally positioned between the Kingdoms of Salatia to the north, and Rendell to the south. The Emirates of Salhazara to the far west, and the Empire of Hirosaka to the east, has positioned Calamata as a hub of trading, and Cultural Diversity.    Rather than becoming diluted by all the other transient cultures through it’s ports, it is Calamata, that has had a leading influence on most of the other nations of Nithrendia.    The exposure over the years of ideals, forms of govern- ment, and technology, has resulted in Calamata taking on the best of the best, artisans & scholars work to perfect the the old, and to invent the new.    Since 596AC, the Calamata Equal Trade Agreement, has grown into The Calamata Accord, with binding agreements in most nations of Nithrendia.  The Calamata Trade Con- sortium, has become the defacto regulatory authority for more than eighty percent of Nithrendia’s trade guilds.   Calamata is now at the beginning edge, of what may be considered a steampunk renaissance.    The base population are humans of average height and build.  Other diverse communities exist across Calamata, representing nearly all races and nationalities.
Salatia, now occupies part of an area that about a thousand years ago, was a major part of the ancient Mooredyne Empire.  After the Empires cataclysmic collapse, clusters of independent city states, and baronies, formed and prospered around the ruins of the old world.    Over time, the area consolidated into a collection of independent baronies.  Due to wars, goblin invasions, and lawless raiders, the baronies formed defensive alliances, and eventually, all of the barons voted unanimously to form a unified Kingdom.    Over the last 500 years, Salatia has become a major world power, earning the respect of its neigh- bors, with the one exception, of the Mulhadrin Khag- anate.  The two nations have been at war off and on for nearly two hundred years.    The southern half of the Kingdom shares a lot of the advancements seen just off it’s southern coast, in the nation of Calamata.  The north is composed of still developing frontier territories.    The population is primarily human, and many are descendants of  the ancient Mooredynes.  There are also Elvish, and Dwarvish, populations as well.
The Mulhadrin are descendants of slaves taken more than a thousand years ago, during a time of growth and conquest, of the ancient Mooredyne Empire.  The Mooredyne’s failed attempt at taking the lands of Hirosaka, resulted in thousands of prisoners of war being turned into slaves.   After the collapse of Mooredyne, the former slaves crossed the great bridges over the Sturn river in mass exodus.  After gaining their freedom they destroyed the bridges to prevent ever being as slaves again.   Over the next few hundred years they lived as peaceful nomadic herdsmen, raising sheep, goats, and horses, on the vast plains and spotty ever- green groves across the great river.    Three hundred years ago the sixteen tribes of the plains, were united under the chieftain of the strongest tribe, Bataama Tanatseg who declared himself the supreme Khaghan.  In another hundred years, his grandson, Naran Tanatseg, convinced all of the tribal leaders, that the lands across the river, should be their birthright due to the slavery of their ancestors.   Without bothering to declare war, the Mulhadrin began a series of surprise invasions and raids across  the Sturn river into Salatia, which has let to an ongoing war.
Hirosaka is recognized as the oldest continuing civilization on Nithrendia, outlasting the ancient Mooredyne Empire.   Beginning with clusters of city states, and small provinces ruled by Warlords, Kensai, Samurai, and a few Wushen, commonly known as mages or magic users.   This system lasted until a major invasion by the Mooredyne Empire nearly twelve hundred years ago.   During the invasion ,the entire nation was consolidated under a single Emperor, Akato Hirodato, a Kensai/wushen.     Akato, assembled and army of epic proportions, and began the integration of Wushen, (Mages) into his companies of soldiers, and cavalry.  While Hirosaka did not have a navy, the power of their armies on land was devastating.    The ten year campaign ended in the failure of the Moore- dyne’s attempt to Annex Hirosaka, the Mooredyne’s in the end, abandoned the effort as too costly.   In the years following, Hirosaka, continued on with an Imperial government, and developed defenses within the nation that most would now consider suicide to attack.   In addition to national security, future Emperors embarked on campaigns to build cities, centers of education, farming, and manufacturing.  Hirosaka is completely self sufficient, and only in the last couple of hundred years has taken a major interest in serious trading with the outside world.
The third oldest nation on Nithrendia, like Salatia is also built around the ruins of the ancient Mooredyne Empire.  The people of Salhazara, had been con- quered by the Mooredynes, and enslaved for more than four centuries.  After the great war that brought about the fall of the Mooredyne’s, the freed slaves of Salhazara recovered slowly.  Infighting and civil wars over who would rule, dragged on for a considerable time.   At one time, there were seven Emirates, each one independent of the others.  As the Emirs continued to battle each other for ultimate control, finally, only the three strongest Emirates remained.     Over a two hundred year period, the three plotted and planned every way possible to defeat the others. Finally, at a stalemate, they watched the world grow around them, as they were ignored and isolated, The three Emir’s agreed upon a truce, and formed a council of three.  A charter was drafted that unified them into The Emirates of Salhazara, but allowed each ruler autonomy within his own Emirate.   With the fighting finally stopped, and the nation unified for more than fifty years without another civil war, Salhazara was accepted into the Calamata Equal Trade Agreement in 677AC.
